Trading one’s responsibility for coziness is an age-old phenomenon, in spite of a huge drawback – relinquishment of personal freedom, which always goes hand in hand. This is extensively explored by Erich Fromm in his seminal work “Escape from Freedom” (aka “The Fear of Freedom”).
